Transcultural Mental Health Centre (TMHC) builds clinical capacity of mental health staff by conducting workshops that focus on building their skills, knowledge and confidence to work with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities including people with migrant and refugee experiences.
When people with migrant and refugee experiences present to services, clinicians need to be mindful of the challenges they may have encountered, and may still be experiencing, before and after resettlement. Along with their experiences, they bring a diverse cultural heritage that shapes the clinical encounter, from beliefs about health and treatment, to help seeking styles and participation in treatment. Such experiences are particularly highlighted in mental health and treatment for mental illness.
TMHC offers a 2 half day workshop 'Using the Transcultural Lens: Migrant & Refugee Mental Health' for mental health clinicians at various times throughout the year.
Dates for the second half of 2025 will be available in due course. Please complete the Expression of Interest form below for updates.
